Artist Statement
I do a lot of listening in my life so moving is a way for me to comment on what I take in from the environment around me on a daily basis. Everything I encounter in an average day leaves an impression which accumulates and takes me to a new path. Because of this absorption, I am affected by the energy everyone has and how their aura causes interactions. Everything connecting, everything building. This micro-level of detail causes me to be hypersensitive to what is happening in my kinesphere.

Looking at what I surround myself with, I gravitate towards texture, whether it is something as simple as the patterns and objects in my room to how elements of movement can contrast each other. By creating expansive, light, and airy movement I seek to generate positivity. This movement takes me out of a world where I am affected by everything around me and into a space that I have full control over.

I am interested in how the body can travel expansively through space, how the body can use the legs as a way to cover ground, and how as dancers we can learn to float through space. How can we learn to stalk or strut with confidence like an average house cat? How can we shift our energy to take on new characters or versions of ourselves?

Because movement is a language of its own, I seek to create work that takes the spectator out of their everyday worries and brings them to a place where they can let go. In today’s society, we all need positivity and modes of empowerment, so through my work, I want to create an authentic space where people can laugh and smile so they can then go out into the universe with brighter energy and a fresh outlook on the world causing a chain reaction with those they interact with. Creating a voice, creating inner confidence. I am continuously searching for ways to add movement into our everyday lives and how as dancers we can bring our use of energy, focus, and discovery to others in various aspects of our lives.
